Comprehensive Summary: Central Library and Information Center of the University of Maragheh 


The Central Library and Information Center of the University of Maragheh serves as the intellectual heart of the university, playing an indispensable role in advancing its educational and research missions. Established in 1987 alongside the university's founding as an agricultural college, the library moved to its new, modern facility in 2021. The building was officially inaugurated on August 23, 2023, as one of the key opening projects for Government Week, representing a significant national investment of 29 billion Tomans. Construction of the 5,000-square-meter facility had begun in 2011 with national funds and was completed under the administration of the 13th government as one of the university's essential infrastructure needs.

 Facilities and Infrastructure 

Designed to meet the diverse needs of the academic community, the new library is equipped with modern facilities:

-  Total Area:** Over 5,000 square meters
-  Study Halls:** Two separate, spacious study halls for male and female students, each covering 917 square meters and equipped with 188 study tables and 417 chairs, providing a comfortable and focused environment for independent study
-  Working Hours:** Study halls remain open until 8:00 PM on regular days and are also accessible on Thursdays and Fridays. Hours are extended during exam periods to accommodate increased student demand for quiet study spaces
-  Digital Resources:** The library holds a growing collection of e-books and utilizes a web-based library management system, allowing all users to search for and access resources from anywhere at any time
-  Additional Services:** Interlibrary loan, resource ordering and processing, professional cataloging, and a dedicated children and young adults section are among the other services offered

 University Overview 

The University of Maragheh, which the Central Library serves, is a public state-funded institution located in Maragheh, East Azerbaijan Province, approximately 130 kilometers from Tabriz. The university spans a 110-hectare campus and comprises four faculties: Basic Sciences, Agriculture, Humanities, and Engineering. It also houses the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, established in 2003 in recognition of Maragheh's historical significance as a scientific center dating back to the 13th-century observatory of Khwaja Nasir al-Din Tusi.

The university has achieved notable recognition in a relatively short period. It ranks second in the country in terms of scientific growth and development. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the university is ranked 301–350 among Asian universities and 24th among Iranian institutions. At the national level, it stands 30th among 130 Iranian universities. The Central Library and Information Center has been instrumental in supporting this remarkable trajectory of academic excellence by providing researchers, faculty, and students with the resources and infrastructure necessary for world-class scholarship.

 - Predicting the required resources for fulfilling orders, buying necessary books, and acquiring publications for the university.
 - Preparing and duplicating audio and video tapes from seminars and conferences for student use.
- Preserving and safeguarding rare books and old documents in the university.
- Binding of books, periodicals, and other scientific and research documents available in the library at the discretion of the superior authority.
- Producing required reports on library activities and submitting them to experienced authorities.
- Preparation of books and study aids for various academic disciplines at the university.
- Reviving and releasing ancient texts that are renowned and revered.
- Providing books, periodicals, and documents for exchange between domestic and foreign universities and educational and research institutes' assemblies and scientific and cultural centers.
- Collaboration with both national and international institutions and assemblies.
- Organizing, preserving, and distributing books and publications to make it easier to access them.
- Performing tasks related to university printing and publications.
 - Classification and cataloging and preparation of books and publications to facilitate their access.
- Establishing effective communication with scientific institutions, libraries, and publishing houses both domestically and internationally to develop a systematic and efficient library network.
