About the Vice President

Dr. Saleh Shahabivand serves as the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the University of Maragheh. He is an Associate Professor and a distinguished faculty member of the Faculty of Basic Sciences, where he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic service for many years.

Dr. Shahabivand has held this position since his appointment by the President of the University of Maragheh, bringing to this role a wealth of experience in both academic and administrative leadership.

Academic Background

Dr. Shahabivand holds a Ph.D. in Biology, specializing in plant physiology and mycorrhizal symbiosis. His doctoral research focused on the interactions between plants and beneficial endophytic and mycorrhizal fungi, particularly in the context of heavy metal stress and plant growth promotion.

He is a faculty member in the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Basic Sciences, where he has been teaching and mentoring students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Research Contributions

Dr. Shahabivand's research interests encompass plant-microbe interactions, mycorrhizal symbiosis, plant stress physiology, and the use of beneficial microorganisms for sustainable agriculture. He has made significant contributions to understanding how endophytic fungi such as *Piriformospora indica* and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can enhance plant growth, improve stress tolerance, and reduce the uptake of toxic heavy metals like cadmium and lead.

His scholarly output includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles published in prestigious international venues, including Elsevier journals, as well as conference papers presented at both national and international congresses. He has also served as the Secretary of the 20th National and 8th International Congress of Biology of Iran, reflecting his standing in the scientific community.

Dr. Shahabivand brings extensive administrative experience to his current role. Prior to his appointment as Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, he held several key leadership positions at the University of Maragheh, including:

- Acting President (Chancellor) of the University of Maragheh
- Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs  (current and previous terms)

In his capacity as Vice President, he has overseen numerous infrastructure and development projects, including the construction of new academic buildings, a central library, a research greenhouse, and student dormitories. His administrative leadership has been instrumental in the university's physical and strategic growth.
